"The artist is also a born adventurer. His explorations, unlike those of the tourist, are rewarded by the discovery of beauty spots unmentioned in the guide books, and with tireless curiosity and an exceptional proneness to wonderment, he will come upon objects of remarkable interest overlooked or even shunned by more disciplined observers."

Nearing the end

The latest mezzotint plate is not quite ready to edition yet but near enough to take a couple of impressions and start thinking about what ink I'll use to print it with. The first impression is printed with a blue-black, the second with Charcoal black. Both give a good range of subtle greys but I think I prefer the warmer tones of the Charcoal Black.

The highlights still need to be burnished to make the whites really pop out and some of the grass stems need to be highlighted to make them appear less flat. Other than that I'm happy with the way the print is progressing.
