"The artist is also a born adventurer. His explorations, unlike those of the tourist, are rewarded by the discovery of beauty spots unmentioned in the guide books, and with tireless curiosity and an exceptional proneness to wonderment, he will come upon objects of remarkable interest overlooked or even shunned by more disciplined observers."

New Year and the last print of the old year.

Engraved in the days following Christmas and printed on New Years Eve this is my last print of the old year. Almost 40 years after I made my first, I've finally got around to making my second Wood Engraving.

Saxon Cross
Wood Engraving
127mm x 101mm
Edition of 20
Printed with black Litho ink on 220gsm Fabriano Rosapina paper.

Dating from around the 10th or 11th Century this Saxon wheel head cross stands on the edge of the Calder Valley high above Todmorden. It's location lies close to an ancient pathway and later pack horse route over the moors between Lancashire and Yorkshire.
